The book has six meditations. In them Descartes first throws out all belief in things which certain. He then tries to establish what on can know for sure. He wrote meditations as if he was meditating for 6 days: each meditation refers to the last one as “yesterday”. (In fact, Descartes began work on the Meditations in 1639.)
